5 events you need to check out this weekend

I think we can all agree that Sudbury summers are the best. The beautiful lakes, hiking trails and patios keep us busy but the events are what really make the summers stand out. Every weekend there are quite a few fun things happening in our city so we thought we would bring back our weekly event roundups but with a twist. We’re sharing 5 events you NEED to check out in Sudbury this weekend.

Up Here Festival

Up Here Festival is one of the best weekends of the summer in Sudbury. If you haven’t been to a festival yet, you are really missing out. There is so much happening for Up Here Festival this year and f you’re not sure what you should check out, we’ve rounded up a list of the artists we can’t wait to see this year. Up Here Festival always have so many surprises for festival goers and this year they have announced a Mystery Tour to lands unknown on the afternoon of August 19. Not sure what this might be? We have some theories. Whatever the Mystery Tour might be, we know it will be amazing and we think that should be top of your list of things to check out in Sudbury this weekend.

Mudmoiselle Sudbury

Every year the Canadian Cancer Society organizes a day of mud, sweat and cheers and as a past participant I can tell you it is A LOT of fun. The 5km muddy obstacle course will bring out your inner child and test your endurance. This women’s only event is open for all fitness levels and is a great way to get your girlfriends together and spend an afternoon in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Greater Sudbury Market

The Greater Sudbury Market runs every Thursday and Saturday at two different locations from June until October. Saturdays you can find them at the Elgin street location from 8am until 2pm. We love checking out the local vendors, picking up fresh produce, stopping for lunch and enjoying the live music. When I was living downtown, this quickly became one of my favourite ways to spend my Saturday mornings. Each week they post a list of the vendors on their Facebook page so head over there to see who you can find at the Greater Sudbury Market this weekend.

Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl

With 31 different stops, the Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl is the perfect way to spend your Saturday afternoon. From 11am until 4pm you can crawl through some of Sudbury’s best visual art spots and see artwork from many of our talented local artists. In partnership with Up Here Festival, you’ll catch some musical acts along the way and be given the opportunity to go on a guided mural tour of all of the Up Here Festival murals in downtown Sudbury.

YES Theatre Summer Festival

You only have another week to check out the YES Theatre Summer Festival. They have extended the run of their productions of Merrily We Roll Along and Violet until August 26th but if you’re looking for something to do this weekend, we suggest picking up tickets and making an evening of it. Both musicals have an amazing cast and have received great reviews. You can catch them at Ernie Checkers Theatre this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at different times.
