5 Ways to Spend the May Long Weekend in Sudbury
The May long weekend has always seemed like the kick off of summer but I cannot believe it’s already here! The sun has come out to play and it really looks like it’s here to stay. We could not be happier! If you’re sticking in the city, or heading out to spend some time in nature, there are so many ways you can celebrate the weekend. We’re sharing five ways we want to spend the May Long weekend in Sudbury.
Get out of the city and onto the island.

Because everything is better when you’re on island time, right? If you’re lucky enough to have a camp on the island, this weekend is the perfect time to open it for the summer. If not, you can still find a spot to camp out. Or make a day trip and visit Little Current. Grab a coffee at Local Beanz, eat at the Anchor Inn and spend some time on the patio at Manitoulin Brewing Co.
Spend the weekend hiking.
There are no shortage of trails to hike around Sudbury and with this beautiful weather, getting outside is a must! We shared our five favourite winter trails with you but these trails are just as amazing in the warmer months so why not pack a few snacks and make a day out of one of these hikes?
Patio hopping with you besties.
The sun is shining and the patios are open. If you aren’t able to get out of the city, that’s okay. You can still soak up the sun on one of our many patios this weekend. We’ve already rounded up five of our favourite downtown Sudbury patios for you.
Get out on the water.
Boating, fishing, kayaking – whatever your water activity of choice is, get outside and do it! The weather forecast is perfectly sunny so don’t waste a second inside this weekend. If you’re looking to rent a kayak or paddle board, the Northern Ontario Water Sports Centre and the Sudbury Canoe Club have got you covered. You may even want to consider becoming a member so you can easily borrow one all summer long!
Grab the family and head to the 5 Way Carnival.
The carnival starts Friday, May 18 and is on for ten days at the Hanmer Shopping Mall! There will be rides for kids of all ages, delicious food, fun games, and entertainment all weekend long. Bonus: Proceeds from the carnival are donated to five local charities so you can have a good time while giving back to our community – a win-win.
