Our Crater x Cambrian College Public Relations: Samantha Davidson
Many of the Our Crater team members have a background in Public Relations and Communications, so we set out to interview some of our fellow PR graduates from Sudbury who have already launched their professional careers! Read on to find out their stories and what advice they have for incoming students and recent graduates. Today’s Public Relations graduate is: Samantha Davidson!
Do you have a favourite memory from Cambrian College?
A lot of my favourite memories came from the overall sense of community at Cambrian. The class sizes were small and allowed for a very rich learning experience. We had the opportunity to build strong relationships, not only with our fellow students, but also with our teachers.
I also started dating my fiancé at Cambrian, he was completing the Business program while I was in PR…now we’re both self-employed and planning our wedding. I will always hold those Cambrian memories very close to my heart!
What inspired you to choose Public Relations at Cambrian College/why should others consider this program?
I’m a very hands-on learner so Cambrian’s PR program was an obvious step for me. As I completed my third year of Communications at Laurentian, I was eager to gain practical experience and continue building my portfolio.
I am so glad that I decided to take this route because it instilled a confidence in me that I didn’t have before. After graduation, I felt prepared to enter the workforce and felt equipped with the knowledge and tools it was going to take to succeed.
What is the most memorable moment of your career so far?
I feel very fortunate to have had so many amazing learning experiences in my career thus far. That being said, the most memorable moment is, without a doubt, taking the entrepreneurial plunge.
It was a roller coaster of emotion and is one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. It hasn’t been easy but it has certainly been worth it!
What is something you hope to achieve in your career?
I hope to continue collaborating with and learning from those who inspire me, personally and professionally. I am so grateful to be surrounded by such an incredible group of creative, driven, motivated people who encourage me to push the envelope and think outside of the box.
Do you have any advice for new PR grads or students who are just entering the program?
TAKE IT ALL IN!
Just because your passion is writing or event planning, doesn’t make graphic design useless to you. You never know what the future holds and in a lot of cases, you’ll be required to wear many hats.
You’re going to be competing for jobs…the more skills you have, the better!
