Canada Learning Code launches Teens Learning Code Program

On May 26th Canada Learning Code launches their Teens Learning Code program in Sudbury. This program offers female-identified, trans, and non-binary youth ages 13-17* opportunities to take action on ideas that will shape our future while leveraging the power of technology. These learning experiences are much more than just learning how to code. They empower teens to learn problem-solving skills, how to turn ideas into reality, exposure to what a future in technology could look like, and much more.

“We’re so excited to bring this program to Sudbury and reach a whole new group of people. Ever since we launch the chapter here we’ve had parents reach out looking for learning experiences for teenagers. With additional resources and federal funding through CanCode we’ll finally be launching Teens Learning Code in our chapter!” – Chrisanne Daniel, Sudbury Chapter Lead.

The first Teens workshop is an introduction to building and coding web pages. Canada Learning Code workshops are designed for beginners; no prior experience needed. What makes these workshops so unique? They are designed to be hands-on, collaborative, project-based learning opportunities, with ample support from volunteers who can answer questions and offer assistance.

Teens Learning Code: Learn to Build a One Page Website From Scratch takes place on May 26th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Cambrian College and is free for participants. Each learner will require their own laptop to work on, and lunch is provided. Register online on Eventbrite to secure a seat, and for more opportunities to learn to code follow Canada Learning Code’s Sudbury Chapter on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or contact the team by email at sudbury@canadalearningcode.ca.

*Teens Learning Code program specifically prioritizes girls (cis and trans) and non-binary individuals because these groups are currently underrepresented in the tech industry. Those who identify outside of these groups are welcome to attend, but should be aware that our effort has gone into meeting the unique needs of this program’s target community.
