IT MUST BE SPRING: NATIONAL CANADIAN FILM DAY RETURNS TO SUDBURY
In Wiarton, they have a groundhog who predicts spring based on seeing his shadow or not: Willy where are you? In Sudbury, for me anyway, spring has come to be associated with the annual #CanFilmDay April 18th. Bring on a dose up of great Canadian-made movies on the big screen. It feels like the start of many great things to come that are grassroots and local as the weather warms up. Normally, I‘ve finished exams and still don’t have my summer job routine set, so I can slow down and smell the -not exactly roses- but the grit in......

SUDBURY INDIE CINEMA GIVES THEIR TOP PICKS FOR NATIONAL CANADIAN FILM DAY!
Today is a special day set aside to appreciate all things Canadiana! There’s just nothing like Canadian film, the indoctrination starts early with childhood favourites like Mr. Dressup, Sharon, Louise & Bram and Polka Dot Door. As we get a little older we’re introduced to Anne of Green Gables and Fly Away Home that both project coming of age stories against the kind of scenery we can only find up here. If you were really into the drama there’s the many regenerations of Degrassi to get you through – ‘it goes there’. Now all grown up you’re ready to......

Beth Mairs, director of Indie Cinema, gave us all the details about the event, the film screening, and why it is important to be a feminist in 2017. International Women’s Day was March 8th, which also happened to be the same day as your WomeninFilmWednesday event! Can you tell us the details of what Indie Cinema had planned? What films were screened? We screened THE WORLD BEFORE HER by Nisha Pahuja.......

My sister, Emmalee and I did not get along growing up. With a nearly six year age difference we fought like cats and dogs over everything you could imagine. Who got to use the family computer first, who’s turn it was with the remote, who owned what Barbie, who was going to get to ride shot gun (okay we still argue over that one). Our mother would tell us “if you can’t get along, don’t talk to each other at all!”, a sentiment we took very seriously for many sparsely worded years. But somewhere among the acne and turbulence......

David Briggs is the founder of Distant Field Productions, a local film production company specializing in horror. Their first feature, Black Forest, was shot in and around Sudbury with a local cast and crew. It’s now available on DVD and from Vimeo On Demand. Their second feature, Sleepwalking, is scheduled for a Spring, 2017, release. David also founded the Northern Frights Festival, which is entering its second year on Oct. 22. The event is happening at the Sudbury Theatre Centre, and the plan is to make this an annual Sudbury event. When did this idea to start Northern Frights......
