Beth Mairs, of Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op is a force to be reckoned with, you can tell right away when meeting her that there is no mountain (literal or figurative) she can’t take on. Her attitude is contagious, after spending about 10 minutes in a room with her you’ll feel like you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. It is after all exactly what she’s done with Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op! The co-op was just awarded a grant which covers a large amount of the budget needed to convert their Mackenzie st property into a full functioning theatre. Want to show your support for Sudbury Indie Cinema Co-op? Chartered LIFETIME memberships are available for just $40, you can buy your own seat for $300, donate gently used items for their upcoming yard sale or volunteer your time. Beth’s path to becoming a champion of Northern film has been an indirect one to say the least, she started her career in social work, she eventually left the field to start her own women’s outdoor adventure company which she ran for 20 years before trying her hand at film making herself. Her forays into film making strengthened her love for Canadian storytelling and thus she’s made it her mission to create an accessible home to show these films.
