Dinner & A Show w/ Emily Burgess & The Emburys
May 30, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$60The final Dinner & A Show of the season on Thursday, May 30 at The Motley Kitchen will feature Emily Burgess & The Emburys , an original roots and blues trio out of Peterborough, fronted by Emily and her blazing Gibson 339 guitar. In February 2019, they won ‘Best New Group’ at the Maple Blues Awards, followed by a successful tour of the Eastern United States. In 2018 they played over 100 shows in support of Burgess’ debut album, ‘Are We In Love?’. The album was #18 on Stingray Blues Channel’s most played albums of 2018, and featured in Joe Bonamassa’s blog ‘Blues Bands to check out in 2018’.
Guitarist and vocalist, Emily Burgess sings her catchy original songs with a unique, warm and smooth vocal style. If her vocals put you at ease, don’t sit back and relax too quickly – she is about to shred it with a virtuoso guitar solo, paying homage to her heroes Chuck Berry, Freddie King, and Stevie Ray Vaughn in every lick. This cohesive three-piece band also includes Marcus Browne (drums, harmony vocals), and Dawson McManus (bass, harmony vocals). With soaring three-part harmony, expert attention to detail on their instruments, they deliver great original tunes as well as covers of blues classics.
Dinner and entertainment combined is $60.00 including HST. Show-only seats are $25.00 each. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the buffet dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and the show approximately from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Reserve now to assure good seats and dinner by calling The Motley Kitchen at 705-222-6685. Emily graduated with honours from Humber College’s prestigious music program at twenty-two years old, majoring in guitar. Direct from the hallways to the roadways, Emily began touring Canada and the US with the JUNO nominated 24th Street Wailers. Eight years and hundreds of shows later, she now fronts her own band and plays guitar with many different acts across Canada. Emily has shared the stage and traded riffs with guitar greats Jimmie Vaughan, John Primer, Garrett Mason, Suzie Vinnick, Sue Foley, and Sam Weber, among others. Burgess wrote two songs and took guitar duties for 2015’s JUNO nominated album “Wicked” by The 24th Street Wailers.Emily has also toured extensively with ‘The Baddest Band in the Land’, The Weber Brothers, bringing her constantly evolving approach and style to the band. As a guitarist for the Women’s Blues Revue Band since 2014, Emily has had the opportunity to take her place alongside many of Canada’s top musicians at Toronto’s legendary Massey Hall every November.
In November 2017, Burgess released her debut solo album ‘Are We In Love?’, produced by The Weber Brothers. CBC music journalist Bob Mersereau calls the album “Empowering” and “A Big Winner”. John Valenteyn of The Maple Blues Newsletter writes “…she has a knack for writing attractive tunes that feature her biting lead guitar…a combination not often heard”. He adds that the album is “Gorgeously produced”.
The Motley Kitchen is proud to present this series in collaboration with the Northern Lights Festival.
