Townehouse Turns 30, Budget Motel, Far From Heroes
June 16, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - June 18, 2017 @ 2:00 am
THOUSANDS of bands.
THOUSANDS of friends.
We’ve been at it for 30 years so we are taking a weekend to kick off the celebration. June 16/ 17.
We’re shutting down the street for the weekend. Gates open 6pm Friday, noon on Saturday.
Friday we reunite with 2 of our great lost loves…
Budget Motel – assembling from across the country for the first time in years… the band that started it all.
Far From Heroes – The first Sudbury band in a generation to break through… recording for Sony… the darlings of the new school punk scene of the late 90’s/ early 2000’s… second show in 10 years.
On Saturday…. We will recreate the Summer of Love with all your faves playing the summer of 1967…
Murder Murder plays The Grateful Dead
Whiskey River plays The Animals
JoPo and the RiZe plays Janis Joplin and Big Brother and Holding Company
Ox plays Jimi Hendrix
The Wharf Rats Play The Who
The Beatles Night plays The Sgt Pepper album in its entirety.
Northern Memphis Revival does Otis Redding.
The Beatles Night is assembling a small orchestra to recreate one of pop music’s greatest achievments. We will be joined by symphony players, big band brass, + Ryan, Dan, Nick, Paul, Pat and Matt, the core of the band that has been hosting Beatles Night for 12 years. We will play Sgt Pepper in it’s entirety with Strings and Horns + a few more important numbers from that era of the summer of love from the Fab Four.
and much more!!
If you don’t have family in town anymore, we are setting a block of rooms at The Quality Inn (705) 675-1273.
June of 1987. The Desjardins family took over an old hotel next to the arena. Within a couple years, The Townehouse Tavern became the centre for new music in the community. In the following years this would herald a change for downtown… the centre of an arts scene. The spark that ignited Downtown Sudbury. Now we are sister restaurants, The Laughing Buddha and The Townehouse… 10 apartments, 25 student rooms, 240 patio seats in the summer, acclaimed food and atmosphere. Hosts of the Elgin Street Craft Beer Festival. It all started with The Townehouse, a love of rock and roll and wanting to be unique in this world.
