The Vast Depths by Kelly Barbosa
The Northern Artist Gallery is thrilled to announce that the exhibit for the month of May will be artist Kelly Barbosa. The exhibit will showcase her love for oceanic creatures and can be viewed at Artists on Elgin from May 1-31. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Saturday May 11th from 1pm to 4pm to meet the artist. Kelly Barbosa has always felt a love for the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. Kelly’s work is a unique blend of painting and relief sculpture as she carves creatures out of MDF (multi-density fibreboard) and finishes them with acrylic paint. Kelly wants to bring a splash of the ocean to the inland of Northern Ontario using vivid hues and bold stylization. In this display of oceanic creatures, you will experience divergent species represented with vibrant hues, bold lines and distinct texture. Come and explore the vast depths.

Hand Tied Bridal Bouquet Workshop + Bubbly Brunch
Sip a white rose mimosa and enjoy a raspberry muffin while learning all the elements of wedding floral design so you can master your DIY wedding decor. Not a bride? No sweat. Join us for some flower fun and brighten up your home for at least a week by placing your lovely bouquet in a vase. During this very intimate workshop, you'll create a natural, garden style bridesmaid bouquet and watch as our instructor demonstrates how to turn that into a show-stopping bride's bouquet. As a bonus, you'll learn how to make a boutonniere and recieve tips and take home material on how to execute centrepieces and cake flowers. For this workshop, you'll craft your bouquet by choosing from a carefully curated selection of beautiful, neutral coloured flowers that are easily accessible year-round. You'll receive tips for seamlessly incorporating all types of colourful and seasonal flowers, in case this better suits your vision! Plus, our instructor will discuss the best and worst types of flowers to use in bouquets to help you avoid some common floral fails. Indulge in some bubbly, bond with your besties, and learn everything you need to make your big day perfect! This is a hands-on course for beginners and flower lovers - no experience necessary and all materials will be supplied. A sensation at last year’s Northern Lights Festival, award winning folk noir singer-songwriter, Abigail Lapell, returns to Sudbury with a brand new album. “Her pipes have a smoky smoothness that creeps into the memories of your heart and lingers gracefully,” said Exclaim Magazine. Call it prairie noir, or Canadiana desert rock: Abigail Lapell sings haunting, gorgeous modern folk songs, mapping epic natural landscapes and deeply intimate, personal territory. The Toronto vocalist, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist has released three acclaimed solo albums. Hide Nor Hair, her sophomore LP, won a Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year in 2017. Since then, Lapell has been on the road, touring across Canada, the U.S. and Europe, and playing at festivals like Northern Lights, Pop Montreal, Mariposa, In The Dead Of Winter, and Folk On The Rocks. Lapell’s ambitious third release, Getaway, just came out in February on Coax Records/Outside. Dinner and entertainment combined is $60.00 including HST. Show-only seats are $25.00 each.
