The Vast Depths by Kelly Barbosa
The Northern Artist Gallery is thrilled to announce that the exhibit for the month of May will be artist Kelly Barbosa. The exhibit will showcase her love for oceanic creatures and can be viewed at Artists on Elgin from May 1-31. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Saturday May 11th from 1pm to 4pm to meet the artist. Kelly Barbosa has always felt a love for the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. Kelly’s work is a unique blend of painting and relief sculpture as she carves creatures out of MDF (multi-density fibreboard) and finishes them with acrylic paint. Kelly wants to bring a splash of the ocean to the inland of Northern Ontario using vivid hues and bold stylization. In this display of oceanic creatures, you will experience divergent species represented with vibrant hues, bold lines and distinct texture. Come and explore the vast depths.

Apex Warrior Regionals Ninja Comp
We are hosting a Regionals event in Sudbury to Qualify for Canadian Championships!! We have partnered with the Ultimate Ninja Athlete Association to bring you our first official ninja competition. The Regionals Competition will be open for anyone to register and compete. If you want to qualify for the Nationals in Calgary you will have to register with the UNAA before you compete on the course. The competition will be laid out like the TV show American Ninja Warrior, and will be designed by Apex Warrior course designers. Participants won't know what the course layout is until competition time starts. Length of the course will be up to 15 obstacles to test balance, coordination and grip strength. AGE CATEGORIES Must be at least 6 years old to compete in the UNAA. 9 and Under Boys 9 and Under Girls 11 and Under Boys 11 and Under Girls 13 and Under Boys 13 and Under Girls 15 and Under Boys 15 and Under Girls Amateur Men Amateur Women Pro Men Pro Women Over 40 Men Over 40 Women Any Adult (16 or older) may compete in Pro Class or Amateur class, but MUST compete in PRO if the athlete has competed in the last THREE years in Las Vegas on ANW, been in the Top 10 Pro class at UNAA Finals, NNL Finals, Rockford Ninja Finals or WolfPack Ninja Tour Finals. If you meet any ONE of these requirements you are considered PRO. Amateur to Pro – If you were an Amateur in UNAA and made Top 5 at the UNAA World Finals, you must now compete as a PRO. Downtown Murals Tour // Tournée des murales
We’re glad to be partnering up with UP Here, our city’s very own music and urban arts festival, to offer you a walking tour of our mural-filled downtown! You’ll get a chance to prance, glance, and learn the story behind each one...ce. Our meeting point is Memorial Park. Make sure to wear comfy shoes and bring a water bottle. This event is weather-dependant, so keep your fingers crossed for sunshine (or, at the very least, no snow!) Girls Learning Code Day
Entrepreneurs are creative problem-solvers. They are always looking for ways to help others and make experiences better, easier, and more enjoyable for everyone. Inspire an entrepreneurial spirit in your young learner through this collaborative learning experience, where participants work together to bring their creative imaginings to life! During this workshop, participants will work in teams to choose a problem they’d like to solve, then brainstorm a startup idea together. Each team will ideate a solution to their problem, then create an online presence for their startup, where they can share their innovative ideas with others. Learners will work together to remix or code their website from scratch in HTML & CSS. We’ll use Glitch to collaborate on our sites and share them with others. At the end of the experience, each team will have a chance to share what they learned, and pitch their ideas to the group. Learners will also leave with a link to their working website, which they can share with family and friends.

Jokestack – A Night of Comedy starring Edworld Kim & Clif Knight

Currently, he has been doing stand-up comedy to bring happiness to people and to make them stick together. His jokes are universal, multi-cultural, and common daily things that you can enjoy regardless of ethnicity. He never stops moving, and his audiences always expect huge amounts of fun, inventiveness and freshness from him. He never stops cracking jokes regardless of where he is, as long as it can make someone feel funny and happy. He is Edworld Kim aka Laugh Bomber Cliff Knight Clif Knight showcases his sense of humour and sense of style in a confident and slick voice with a perspective that is utterly unique and hilarious. Featuring at NXNE, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Clif is no stranger to making himself understood either through music or even other languages (Scottish is a different language, trust). As a Guyanese by birth and Canadian by receipt Clif is what you'd call double cultured and has no problem rocking the stage and making crowds double over with laughter. Stories and Songs of Stompin’ Tom is an all-star musical tribute to Canadian icon Stompin’ Tom Connors. In this extraordinary concert event Tom’s music will be performed by his touring band Whiskey Jack along with special guests Russell deCarle (the voice of Prairie Oyster and 6x Juno winner), Cindy Church (Lunch at Allens & Quartette) and The Good Brothers (8x Juno winners). Russell, Cindy, and the Good brothers Bruce, Brian and Larry are country music royalty in Canada. They each have garnered numerous gold and platinum records during their storied careers and are country music hall of fame inductees in Canada and the US. In addition to singing their personal versions of Tom’s songs they will also perform their own hit songs.
