The Vast Depths by Kelly Barbosa
The Northern Artist Gallery is thrilled to announce that the exhibit for the month of May will be artist Kelly Barbosa. The exhibit will showcase her love for oceanic creatures and can be viewed at Artists on Elgin from May 1-31. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Saturday May 11th from 1pm to 4pm to meet the artist. Kelly Barbosa has always felt a love for the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. Kelly’s work is a unique blend of painting and relief sculpture as she carves creatures out of MDF (multi-density fibreboard) and finishes them with acrylic paint. Kelly wants to bring a splash of the ocean to the inland of Northern Ontario using vivid hues and bold stylization. In this display of oceanic creatures, you will experience divergent species represented with vibrant hues, bold lines and distinct texture. Come and explore the vast depths.

NOMFA 2019 – Northern Music Showcase – Friday May 24th
Join us at 8 PM at Little Montreal and hear some awesome artists from all around Northern Ontario. Friday's night line-up includes: Nick Sherman + Rico Littledeer Singer-songwriter, Nick Sherman, gives new meaning to “the voice in the wilderness,” or rather, the voice from the wilderness. While he still calls his rural birthplace of Sioux Lookout home, Nick spent much of his youth out on the land, moving between his hometown, the small First Nation community of Weagamow Lake, and his family’s trapline on North Caribou Lake. His gentle voice is rich with honesty and the vitality of youth, but tempered with world-weariness, atop his strong, simple guitar. As a part of the Indigenous Music Mentorship Program, Nick will be performing with his mentee, Rico Littledeer. Frank Deresti and the Lake Effect An adventurous and versatile group of musicians, impressing audiences across the country since 2012. They have gained a following with their undeniable musicianship and unique take on the singer-songwriter genre. From heart-felt ballads to spontaneous moments of unbridled energy, this band is a must-see. Greyson Gritt Born of an Ojibway mother and a Métis Father, Greyson Gritt is an award-winning artist, and a tattooed, gender queer, folk-blues-playin' songwriter! Jennifer Holub and the Erratics Holub’s songs are about the things that torment us. Her new album “The Reckoning” is a hawkish condemnation of society’s place for women, and an urgent call to rouse from it. At the age of 32, she made the reckless decision to leave it all behind for a music career. The Honest Heart Collective Anchored by four lifelong friends, The Honest Heart Collective was born from two brothers, a Bruce Springsteen concert, and a rotating cast of musicians made permanent. Grief Rights was released in May 2018 and its sound has been described as “classic...
