Welcome to SDS Studio Tours, Over the Atlantic edition! We’re switching up the format in efforts to create a more focused event that showcases an in-depth look at Sudbury’s design community. On September 19th, we’ll be visiting Over the Atlantic to take a look at their team’s design process in successfully executing a project, and potentially a few bumps they’ve experienced along the way. By showcasing a presentation, Q&A session, and time to socialize afterwards, this event will allow for a more authentic view of a successful studio, and a better opportunity to be engaged with individual firms within the community. A special shout-out goes to OTA, the studio that has been so closely involved in making this evening an incredible and fun experience. See you there!

In addition, attendees will be provided with an article regarding time management in advance of the event date. We willl discuss the article as a group during the evening, and share different approaches and strategies regarding time management. The Charged Talks feature talks from prominent industry leaders with unique and engaging perspectives on the intersection of technology and design, that will offer attendees insights to leverage collaboration between the two disciplines. In this talk, learn strategies and from lessons learned in how to create apps that break down barriers between humans and technology. By adding an organic and tangible touch with design, interactions, and going beyond user expectations, you can create long-lasting and engaging products that people connect with on an emotional level.

She’s On Board is a free, one-day workshop at the Fielding Innovation Space (located at Laurentian University), led by some of the city’s most experienced female leaders to equip women to become more comfortable with governance and public policy, as well as connecting them to established boards in Greater Sudbury. This workshop will accommodate a small class of both new leaders and experienced leaders, and we will offer tangible, inclusive and hands-on training in an accessible manner. Upon completion of the training, the graduates will have the opportunity to be matched with a local board to either join as a director or receive mentorship from a current board member, should no positions be open for fulfillment. The Open Resume Clinic is available to students, staff and alumni throughout the year. We offer 5-10 minute walk-in visits for quick resume and cover letter critiques, on-the-spot job search advice, overview of services, and introductory career decision-making guidance. Walk-ins are available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Career Centre in room 2409. No appointment necessary. A paper (hard) copy of any documents (cover letter, resume, etc.) to be reviewed is required.
