Browser extensions are small software programs that modify and enhance our experience on the web. They range from playful to practical, with the goal of doing one thing, well. Extensions can help customize our browsing experience or increase productivity by reducing repetitive tasks. In this workshop, we will use code as a tool for empowerment, to develop agency and harness change by building our own extension for Google Chrome! This workshop is designed to be a hands-on experience, where learners will: - learn basic programming techniques and concepts that are translatable to other programming languages - review the basic building blocks of how HTML, CSS, and JavaScript work together to create richer online experiences - load and update extensions using Chrome’s developer mode modify and replace elements using JavaScript (more kittens on the web!) Prerequisites: None! This workshop is designed for beginners.
The City of Greater Sudbury invites residents to a free outdoor family celebration on Snow Day, Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. near the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park. Activities include sliding, climbing, snow art, snowshoeing, skating, snowboarding and much more. A warm-up area, equipped with change tables and nursing stations, will be available for families with babies and young children. Kina Gbezhgomi Child & Family Services will offer a campfire for warmth, and provide a comfortable place for storytelling and bannock making. Transportation to Bell Park will be free of charge aboard Greater Sudbury Transit when passengers inform the bus operator they are attending Snow Day. Free helmets and equipment for activities will be available for loan at the Bell Park entrance. Meals and snacks may be purchased from food vendors.
