Sudbury 6th Annual Defeat Depression Walk/Run

Bell Park Sudbury, Canada

For the past five years, the Sudbury Defeat Depression Walk/Run has brought the community together to make a move for mental health. We are organized passionately by and for those with lived experience with mental health challenges. Now into out sixth year, our goal is to continue to grow the movement, and challenge our community to step up and step forward in how we think about, talk about, and act on all matters of mental health. The funds raised support the local programming and services at NISA/Northern Initiative for Social Action as well as the national efforts of the Mood Disorders Society of Canada. At its heart, we want folks to know they are not alone in their experiences and authentic support is available. How can you help? Participate in Sudbury's Defeat Depression Walk / Run! Diet Culture Detox

Greater Sudbury Public Library 74 Mackenzie Street, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada

This is a 4-week introductory program designed to help you take a critical look at your relationship to your body, food, and exercise, and begin to unlearn the harmful messages of Diet Culture. It will start you off on your journey to body liberation and self love, giving you skills to appreciate food again, shut up that negative voice in your head, appreciate your body, and move for joy (rather than to “lose weight”). Not only that, but you will learn some of the diet myths that we all have been brainwashed by (spoiler alert: BMI is a complete sham!) Week 1: Our Relationship with our Bodies We’ll talk about our body histories, how our culture teaches us a body “ideal”, and where that negative voice (the “inner critic”) comes from. I’ll teach you a simple way to silence that inner critic and guide you through a short meditation to help you better appreciate your body. Week 2: Our Relationship with Food We’ll talk about our personal histories with food, the diet industry, and the moralizing of certain foods. Then I’ll introduce you to the practice of mindful eating. Week 3: Our Relationship with Fitness We’ll talk about the fitness industry and our society’s obsession with exercise. I’ll discuss the RADICAL idea of movement for pleasure and maybe we’ll have a dance party! Week 4: Eating Disorders vs Disordered Eating I'll talk about the difference between eating disorders and disordered eating and give a brief introduction of the most common eating disorders and their symptoms. I’ll also talk about my own healing journey and describe what that can look like for others. $20 for the whole month (but no one will be turned away for lack of funds) Max capacity is 10 participants Register at allbodiesgoodbodies@gmail.com

Sunday afternoon Blues, Rags, Bluegrass and Gospel

Townehouse Tavern 206 Elgin Street, Sudbury, Canada

Welcome 2019 ... Our Sunday Afternoons have been great this year... Richard Mende and Paul Loewenberg take a couple hours to play old Blues, Ragtime, Bluegrass, Gospel with a touch of Folk music. About half the time we have special guests join in on Bass or Fiddle or Dobro or Banjo... but the rest of the time it's 2 music encyclopedias playing the best from 1800 to about 1960. More often is the 1920's and 30's. We love it when the kids dance. Bring the kids, bring your parents... meet your friends. Have a great meal... A great afternoon of peace and good music. We are back next week with more Fats Waller, Mississippi Sheiks, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, The Carter Family and more. If you are a player and want to get in on the kitchen jam... come and talk to us...
