The community is invited to come out Tuesday, May 28, 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers to show support for a climate emergency declaration and action on climate change in Greater Sudbury. On February 1, 2019, local youth with Fridays for Future called on Greater Sudbury Council to declare a climate emergency.  Moved to act, two local grandmothers, Dr. Jane Cox and Mrs. Carole Lavallée, began a climate action petition.  Over 2000 residents from every Ward and every area of Greater Sudbury have signed this petition, which will be presented to Council at the May 28 Council meeting. Councillors will vote on a motion to declare a climate emergency and make action on climate change a priority. Attendees should plan to be there for 5:50pm.  The vote should be done by 7:00pm. This event is taking place at The Tree of Life North in Sudbury in the Rooted in Community space! Join me for an afternoon of playful creativity. We will begin with a grounding meditation and an opportunity to smudge. Then we will combine Intuitive Painting with Collage to create our own unique masterpiece. We will use beautiful pieces of paper, intricate stamps, fluid inks, acrylic paints, markers and other mediums to create a brilliant piece of art on gessoboard (after the workshop, this board is suitable for framing or can stand alone on a shelf). I will guide and support you through this process. No artistic experience is necessary to take part in this workshop. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. This is a free full day of training is geared towards employers, employees, and community members that want to learn more about creating inclusive work environments. The goal is create allies in the community, and to provide information that can be brough back into the workplace setting. The topics included in this training include: Trans 101, Rights under the Ontario Human Rights Code, Gender inclusive language, Creating inclusive policies and procedures, Statistics about income and employment, and more.
