NORCAT: Bringing Ideas to Life at PITCH 2016

NORCAT: Bringing Ideas to Life at PITCH 2016

NORCAT’s PITCH event is back for its third year. Four innovative businesses will be pitching their ideas to a room full of prospective investors. NORCAT received 25 applications and their panel selected four to compete at PITCH 2016 on Thursday, April 28th at the United Steelworkers Hall.

What exactly is PITCH?

PITCH is a chance for local entrepreneurs to get in front of an audience of investors. Starting a business and putting your ideas into action is never an easy task. Many factors contribute to the success of your business including access to the right mentors, customers, and very often start-up capital. The NORCAT Innovation Mill started PITCH with the hopes that local entrepreneurs could get their ideas in front of the right people. The event will consist of 4 ten-minute pitches with a 10-minute Q&A after each. There will be a networking opportunity at the end of the pitches and a cash bar and appetizers will be available. The top venture is selected by the audience and will receive the “People’s Choice Award,” which is services and support valued at over $25,000!

Who is participating in PITCH?

Although we won’t find out who the four companies are until the day of the event, we are told that all four are under the age of 40 and from the Sudbury area. Young entrepreneurs for the win!

Who won PITCH in the past and where are they now?

The first year, StaffStat took home the “People’s Choice Award” title. StaffStat allows schedulers to access staff and fill shifts with the touch of a button. The software allows schedulers in health care to reach every eligible employee using text message, email, telephone pick-up and recently launched an app for iPhone and Android, covering shift calls and job requests when sick calls come in. They are currently averaging over 150,000 texted shift notifications per month!

The second winner of PITCH was Fashion Circle! The winner, Alexis Fuller, is currently working on further developing her application. At the age of seventeen, still in high school preparing to graduate, young tech entrepreneur Alexis Fuller recognized an opportunity to make online shopping more engaging and social. Fuller created Fashion Circle – an app available for iPhone and Android users to share and connect with peers over clothing purchases.

PITCH 2016 takes place on Thursday, April 28th. Tickets are $20 and you can get yours online at http://www.norcat.org/pitch/ or at the door of the event.
