LOCAL ACTS AT BLOOM 2

Are you ready to shake off those icicles? Bloom 2 has arrived and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick those winter blues to the curb. Organized by our friends at NLFB, Bloom is an international multi-venue music festival with headliners including A Tribe Called Red, Lido Pimienta, and Terra Lightfoot! But don’t worry, our local talent was not overlooked. Filling out the bill we have Sudbury performers with musical styles ranging from hip-hop to folk, showcasing just how diverse our crater really is! Read on to learn more about some of the local artists you can check out this weekend.

Featured for all your day time partiers on March 7th will also be NLFB’s annual Meltdown Competition! Local hopefuls will have the chance to perform for judges for a paid gig at the 48th edition of the festival at Bell Park July 9-12, 2020. The winning solo and group act will also have the chance to participate in Bloom pass holders get free access to the competition and get to watch contestants try their best to wow the judges.

The Ape-EttesMarch 7 @ The Townehouse Tavern (206 Elgin St), 9:30PM – 1AM

The Ape-ettes are an all-girl garage-psych-pop-punk trio from Sudbury. Charming the crowd with their spirited less-is-more approach, the Ape-ettes will have you rocking out in both official languages.

Lisa Marie Naponse – Pop-up performer!

Make sure you have the Bloom app downloaded so you don’t miss this one! Lisa Marie is a singer, songwriter from Atikameksheng Anishinawbek. Her Anishinabe name is Odemin Kwe, meaning “Strawberry Woman”.  In Anishinabe culture the strawberry is known as the “Heart Berry”, nourishing the body, mind and spirit, and connecting emotions.  Her music reflects her name; red-chained, heartfelt and passionate.  Lisa Marie’s sound can be described as Indigenous folk-pop. Her silky vocals, beat driven rhythm guitar, and unwavering lyrics, embody the contemporary Anishnabe Kwe. Lisa Marie is currently working on new music, music production and recording.

Jor’Del DownzMarch 7th @ The Asylum (19 Regent St), 8PM – 12:30AM

Jordel Downey aka Jor’Del Downz is a well-rounded songwriter, proficient in singing, rapping, percussion and beat making. Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, JorDel has been honing his musical talents since a young age.

Edouard LandryMarch 6th @ The Grand (28 Elgin St), 7PM – 2AM

Edouard Landry shapes through his songs, a folk universe with pop, reggae or rock accents and catchy melodies. His sense of melody and his ease of navigating through musical styles are seductive. He was nominated in the Best Male Performer category at the Trille Or Awards Gala (2017), and his albums Pomme plastique II and escalade; were nominated Best Album by a French-speaking artist at the Prix de musique et Ontario Film Festival (2017 and 2019). A fourth album, Pomme Plastique III, was released in October 2019.
