The Second Annual Makers North Spring Market takes place this coming weekend, June 2nd at the McEwen School of Architecture and we are excited to check out the sizzling array on handmade goods! 50 talented makers from Northern Ontario (and a few from the south) will come together for this fabulous day of shopping, fun, delicious coffee and baked goods (we heard that Beards and Café Petite Gateau will be there!). If you fancy getting your hands on some amazing handmade goods head to the show, and remember to enter our fun giveaway to win a prize pack from talented makers worth over $50.

Makers hail from Sudbury, Manitoulin, Timmins, and North Bay to name just a few. Here are a few of the talented makers we’re hoping to check out this weekend:

Hometown Naturals

Roxanne Romaniuk joins the market from Whitefish Falls and is the maker behind ‘Hometown Naturals’ an all-natural line of home and body products.

I was inspired to create my own products after realizing how many chemicals were in most products found in shops. My friend convinced me to try out selling them at a market and it went well. My most popular items are my charcoal face scrub as well as the face cream, these are my customer favourites.” – Roxanne Romaniuk

Rocky Socks

Rocky Socks and Apparel’ is run by Aimee Donison from Dowling. Her product line includes pillows, socks, make-up bags and home items with witty sayings on them.

My favourite thing about participating in handmade markets in the support and involvement from the community. It always amazes me how many talented makers there are in our area. Being a stay at home mom allows me to create my items on my own time-schedule which I really like.” – Aimee Donison

Alfie + Iris

Gabrielle Lanthier is an emerging maker from Elliot Lake. She creates baby accessories using a scrumptious variety of high quality fabrics.

I love the whole process of making something, but my most favourite part would have to be adding the finishing touches on an item; in my case it would be adding the centre band to a bow, or fiddling with how the bow is tied so it looks its very best. In that moment my vision, and all my work comes together, and the item takes life, and I start imagining how that item will be worn, or who will be wearing it, and what occasion they’ll wear it for…etc. That’s the kind of magic and excitement that makes me love what I do.” – Gabrielle Lanthier
