Maker Monday: BananaBug Babies
Mondays are quickly becoming our favourite days of the week! I love meeting all of these amazing makers and getting a peak into their creative processes. Last week we shared our interview with Jessica, the maker behind forEver Baby&Kids and you can read that here. Today we’re introducing you to the maker behind BananaBug Babies, Danielle. Danielle has been making adorable children’s clothing and accessories since 2007.
Tell us a bit about BananaBug Babies.
My name is Danielle Teixeira, and I’m the founder and creator at BananaBug Babies. I run my business from home here in Sudbury. I sew baby/child clothing and accessories, and this year I have also added custom decals to my product line! I love taking custom orders for new products that I don’t usually carry.
How did you get started?
In 2007, I created BananaBug Babies. I had been hunting for fun and unique baby clothing for my daughter, but when I wasn’t finding what I wanted, I decided to start making my own. I was told I had a talent and that I needed to share my creations. So I did, and here I am!
Where do you get all of your materials you use to make your products?
Most of my materials are ordered online through a variety of Canadian shops. And I also get stuff from a few local stores in Sudbury. Love supporting local businesses π
What has been your favourite product to make so far?
I really like making baby Boots, and Slouchy Beanies. And my new custom decal products are really fun as well!
Do you take custom orders?
Yes!! Actually most of my business is custom orders! I don’t keep a lot of product in stock, unless I am doing a vendor show.
Do you have any tips for other makers who may be looking to start selling their own creations?
Yes, just keep going! Even if you feel like you aren’t doing that great, or not many people know about you, or you are spending way more than you are making, it will eventually pay off. Also take part in vendor shows!!! This is a really great way to get your name out there, especially the Christmas ones π
