Maker Monday: forEver Baby&Kids
It’s Monday again so it’s time to introduce you to another talented local maker! If you missed our last Maker Monday interview with SOS Botanicals, you can find that here. Today we want to introduce you to Jessica, the maker behind forEver Baby&Kids. forEver Baby&Kids offers high quality, affordable hair accessories and bowties for newborns, babies, toddlers, kids, teens, and adults.
Tell us a bit about forEver Baby Designs.
forEver Baby&Kids is a brand that creates high quality, affordable, vegan hair accessories and bow ties for babies, kids, and adults. Each hair accessory has the option of coming on a soft, stretchy nylon band that fits newborn to adult. forEver Baby&Kids is a socially responsible brand and a portion of each season’s proceeds are donated to a various organizations and initiatives locally and globally. For the Spring 2018 Collection, a portion of proceeds will be used to purchase diapers for babies in need through the Sudbury Women’s Centre.
How did you get started?
The moment I found out I was pregnant with a little girl, I started searching for hair accessories for her. I had a hard time finding things that I really liked, and once I had Everleigh anything I found she grew out of within a few weeks. So I started making my own! From there, I gave a few away to family and friends, and it sort of took off. Once others saw the hair accessories they wanted some, so i decided to take the plunge and pursue this as a small business opportunity, not just a side hustle.
Where do you get all of your materials to make your products?
I spent months sourcing out various fabric and nylon suppliers to find what I really liked and fit into my brand. I currently have a handful of suppliers I purchase from located in Canada, the United States, England, and even Australia! I hand pick each fabric style to fit in with our brand and use materials that I think my customers will love on their littles!
What has been your favourite product to make so far?
I absolutely love to make coordinating sets of accessories that look similar but aren’t carbon copies. I recently launched a “Mothers Day” themed collection, and I have to say that was my favourite so far. I loved designing sibling sets that complimented each other but were still unique and beautiful products on their own.
Do you take custom orders?
I absolutely do take custom orders! I love creating a product from a vision that my customers have. There is a longer turnaround time, as some of the fabrics may need to be special ordered, but I thrive on making an idea come to life!
Do you have any tips for other makers who may be looking to start selling their own creations?
Find something that you love to do that will still be fun at 2 in the morning. There are plenty of youtube tutorials to get you started, but whatever you do, put your own spin on it! Find something that you are passionate about and just keep going!
