MAKER MONDAY: WOLF & PINE

MAKER MONDAY: WOLF & PINE

If all natural skin care products and filthy humour are up your alley you are going to love Wolf & Pine! Dave and Mercedes are the, Lively duo behind this line of eco-friendly, plant-based care products. Their range includes clay masks, bath salts, body soap, beard oil and body whips to name a few. Many touting cheeky names like Ho Fo Sho, Filthy Mouth or London Flog. Their product names might make you blush but their products will make you glow! We got in touch with Mercedes to get more information on Wolf & Pine and the inspiration behind their products.

Tell us a bit about Wolf & Pine and your story?

Wolf & Pine essentially began because we identified that there was a demand for ethical care products.  We wanted to be as responsible as we could in terms of sustainability and quality ingredients.  We did not, however, want our products to look as though they were made by dirty hippies with some leftover scraps of burlap.

Tell us about some of the ingredients readers will find in your products?

Our primary emphasis is organic and wildcraft ingredients, we abstain from all fillers and unnatural dyes and fragrances.  We harvest and refine many of our own ingredients, and ethically source many others from around the globe.

How did you first become interested in creating your own skin care products?

In a sense you could say research and development started many years before the idea of Wolf & Pine ever began.  Making soap and other self care products is nothing new, it’s something we’ve done for years.  We never could just leave things alone in general, there was always a sense of whether things could be done better.  Once we learned that there was a group of people out there who were also interested in products with ingredients they could actually understand and pronounce, we decided to share.

We love the cheeky names you give your products! Where do you come up with them?

That kind of style can only come from years of being the type of human who uses humour as a coping mechanism to avoid dealing with their actual issues.  Cryptic dad jokes are cheaper than therapy.

What are a few of your most popular products?

The London Flog body whip and the Tight n’ Moist youth oil I would say are the two most loved products right now.  Artichoke me Daddy seems to get a lot of attention for some reason unbeknownst to us.

Where can readers find Wolf & Pine products?

Readers can order directly from our online store.  On the site you’ll also find a list of our stockists if you’re the type of person who still gets off on real life human interaction.

Where can we follow and find more information about Wolf & Pine?

If you’re into weird jokes that mostly miss the mark, and our general sunny outlook on life, you can follow @wolfandpine.co on Instagram or read more about us on our website.  You can get in depth descriptions of the products and read about our charitable causes.  Don’t tell anyone we’re actually nice though.  We’ve spent a long time cultivating this air of nonchalance and cynicism.

Give a shout out to some of your favourite local makers!
We love the Woodland Sisters whole aesthetic as well as their sustainability practices.  One Kwe does great fabrication and does a lot to further the role of women in fields that have historically been out of reach.  We also have to express our gratitude to Tracy Baker of Yellow House and Julieanne Steedman of Heirloom Island who are not only great artists, but also run the Makers North events.
