RETHINK GREEN HOSTS THE GREEN EVENT OF THE SEASON (AND IT’S NOT EVEN ST. PATRICK’S DAY)

reThink Green is back at it again with their 11th annual Greater Sudbury Earth Day Festival! As an ever evolving hub for all things green reThink Green strives year round to tackle new environmental projects and educate the community. Greater Sudbury Earth Day Festival is a networking highlight for environmentally conscious Sudburians, gathering like-minded organizations and folks together to share ideas and create conversations. We got in touch with Nathalie Gara-Boivin for all the details on the event happening June 4 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Memorial Park!

Tell us more about the Greater Sudbury Earth Day event

This is the 11th year of the Greater Sudbury Earth Day Festival. It is moved locations over the past 10 years and we are excited to have it OUTDOORS again. We also moved the festival to JUNE, so that it would be warmer and could have the green booths outdoors. It is the real kick off to the summer. Eventhough Earth Day itself is April 22nd, any day is a good day to celebrate the Earth and all activities related to the environment. In reality, everyday should be Earth Day! It started in 2005 and was held at what is now the old Market where the School of Architecture is located.

What sort of vendors and activities will guests be able to enjoy?

There are over 30 vendors including community groups such as Carrefour Francophone,Cairo Cafe-selling Falafels, Clean Air Sudbury, Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury, Cocos Nucifera, College Boreal, Downtown Sudbury, Eat Local Sudbury, Fruit for All, Electric Vehicles of Greater Sudbury, Frubar Juicery, Fire Flame Jerk House– selling Carribean food, Good Food Box, Insight Astrology. There will be lots to see and do!

The kids area will be making a recycled orchestra instruments and drums,  as well as there are educational water activities like the Pioneer Water Race and rolling through the watershed & scavenger hunt.

There is also a French show for kids about being a Superhero for the planet called EnvironneMAN. So a real family friendly day! The Earth Day Feestival is also the chance to learn about what green groups and businesses are doing in our community to help the environment and how you can GET INVOLVED!

Also, new this year is an E-WASTE Collection! So people can bring their old electronics to be recycled by a company called Haxxess. These items will be collected at the Sudbury Market (that is also open) and can include everything from old cell phones, VCRS, printers and more. See our website for the details!

There will be Electric cars on display at the Sudbury Market location (so we have partnered with the Sudbury Market) to showcase some earth day activities there!

Tell us more about the events new location in Memorial Park

The event will be better because it will be outdoors, so a real chance to unplug and reconnect with mother nature and other fellow earth advocates. Also, new is that fact that we partnered with the Sudbury Market and that we are having the E-waste collection there, Electric cars on display and some food vendors. So it is almost like two venues for the price of one!

There is also a BBQ at the Memorial Park hosted by Eat Local Sudbury and Frubar will be doing smoothies!

Where can we find more information on reThink Green year round?

reThink Green is a real hub for green community groups and activities, so you can drop at 176 Larch (3rd floor) to learn more about the activities throughout the year, or visit the website, or better yet become a member and have access to some of the office infrastructure, or meeting space, a lending library and other benefits which is great for a new green group thats starting up!

Be a part of the solution!

We are still looking for some volunteers! So if you want to be part of this great day, send us an email at:earthday@rethinkgreen.ca
