Northern Ontario PR Celebrates 1 Year
Publicity/media relations, social media management and event planning are a few of the services offered by Northern Ontario PR – a public relations company based in Sudbury servicing Northern Ontario. After 5 years experience in the media industry, Michelle TenHave decided it was time to be her own boss and start her PR company. Northern Ontario PR celebrated 1 year in business earlier this month and we had a chance to sit down with Michelle to learn more about Northern Ontario PR and what she’s been working on lately!
What’s the story behind Northern Ontario PR?
I have worked in the media industry for about four years prior to starting Northern Ontario PR and when a sudden layoff occurred, I thought what better time to begin what I had dreamed of doing for quite awhile. With the experience, I gained and contacts I made, it definitely helped me get to where I am now. Northern Ontario PR is a public relations company, based in Sudbury, servicing Northern Ontario businesses. There wasn’t anything like it here, so I created an opportunity.
How has your business grown in the past year? What’s been your biggest accomplishment so far?
When I started Northern Ontario PR last year, I didn’t really know where It could go but after completing several client projects and starting to build a brand and being recognized for the work I was doing, I began to really focus on my business goals. My biggest accomplishment so far has been winning a grant through the Regional Business Centre’s program, Start-Up Company to put toward my business. It wasn’t just about winning the money, it was about going through the process that led me to where I am now.
You are participating in Entrepreneurship 101 at NORCAT – what has that been like and would you recommend it to other entrepreneurs looking to start a small business?
I am grateful for programs like Entrepreneurship 101. This experience has been extremely beneficial for not only business growth but for my own personal growth. I would definitely recommend this program to entrepreneurs as it provides excellent learning opportunities from the staff and advisors. To learn from other people who have gone through challenges and experienced success is inspiring.
Best part about being your own boss?
The best part about being my own boss is the ability to create my own work schedule. The fact that I am able to walk my dogs during the day, do my grocery shopping when I want and take two-hour lunch breaks excites me! Working from home can be challenging, so being able to manage my time effectively is key.
Congratulations on a successful first year! What are your plans for the future of your company?
Thank you! I can’t believe it has been a year already! My plans for the future are to expand my reach across the North, travel more, hire soon and open up an office!
Any upcoming events for you or your clients?
I’ve always enjoyed being involved in community events and recently I’ve been able to dedicate more time to helping any way I can toward the success.
