SCIENCE NORTH IMAX®: The Next Generation

Last month, Science North’s IMAX® Theatre was closed for some pretty awesome upgrades. The theatre reopened February 6, 2016, with the world’s most state-of-the-art advanced cinema technology–IMAX with Laser, the third of its kind in Canada (after ScotiaBank Theatre in Toronto and TELUS World of Science in Edmonton). With this new laser system, Science North’s IMAX Theatre can now offer the best cinematic programming for their documentaries and feature-length films.

Before the transition from film to digital, they were only able to screen 5-7 documentaries every year but now they can screen anywhere from 30 to 40 films a year! With the largest screen in all of Northern Ontario, 72 feet wide by 53 feet tall, the new laser and sound system, the IMAX is a truly unique experience.

Calling all Star Wars fans! Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened at IMAX on Friday, March 4th and whether you’ve already seen the movie or not, you are going to want to experience it in IMAX 3D! Director J.J. Abrams shot key sequences of the movie using IMAX cameras – the highest-resolution cameras in the world. Only in IMAX theatres will these sequences expand vertically to fill the entire screen with breathtaking image quality for a truly immersive experience.

After experiencing Everest in IMAX 3D a couple weeks ago, we know without a doubt that there is no better way to experience a movie. We were definitely blown away by the new IMAX with laser.
