Angie Nussey
Angie Nussey is an award-winning Canadian recording artist originally from Lively. Since 1999, she has released six, full-length albums and won over 15 industry awards for songwriting, vocals, and performance. She combines humour, vulnerability, and artistry with messages of empowerment. After many years struggling with depression, Angie began transcending down the path of self-actualization and now shares her stories and songs as a way of connecting in a compassionate and self-accepting way.
Jennifer Holub
Jennifer
Holub’s songs are about the things that torment us. This Northern
Ontario-based artist’s new album “The Reckoning” is a hawkish
condemnation of society’s place for women, and an urgent call to
rouse from it. Blending sonic experimentation with rhythmic folk-pop
and galloping drums she captures the juxtapositions of her home
– tired, yet resilient.
The album is a collaboration
with sonic experimenters Jon Danyliw (Murder Murder) and Matthew
Wiewel (Deadpan Studios, Pistol George Warren) and captures the
quintessence of her home in northern Ontario – pastoral, tired, cold,
and resilient.
Sarah Craig
This year ‘Sudbury Girl’, jazz artist Sarah Craig, performs Caribbean inspired originals to set a summer mood at SHE ROCKS! Sarah has a broad repertoire ranging from old country to soul, however, she is best known for her jazz music. Sarah Craig Jazz trio plays monthly at The Alibi Room on Durham and Thurs Jazz at La Fromagerie downtown Sudbury.
DarlenYa
darlenYa’ (aka Darlene & Co.) has 30 years of music, writing and performance under her belt having lived the life of a troubadour on the road from 1990-2015. Between her solo career, The Road Dog Divas, and Sweetwater Women she has 9 self-produced albums to date. She is known for her musical diversity (influenced by many different cultures) and strong theatrical performance, uplifting the spirit, involving the audience and leaving you humming lines worth remembering. Her vocal range and skills have expanded to encompass just about any kind of keening, chanting or ululation one may be aware of, from operatic soprano to mariachi to Finnish yoiking to throat singing to barnyard animals.
Voices for Women is a free, community based, service for women (women identified) who have experienced sexual violence. By providing victims and survivors with unconditional support and by holding the assailant/abuser responsible for the violent behaviour, they are able to empower clients in recognizing their own self-worth. Some of the resources Voices for Women provides includes: individual/group counselling, healing workshops, drop in socials, and community advocacy. Your ticket to She Rocks will go directly towards continuing these programs for women in our city! Last minute tickets are still available online and at the DiBrina box office ($40).
