Shop Local: Lather Up with The Cucumber Tree
Monique Sarazin, owner of The Cucumber Tree, is keeping Sudbury fresh-faced and healthy with her environmentally friendly and all-natural beauty and body products. We asked Monique to tell us more about the inspiration behind her brand and some of her favourite creations!
Tell us about yourself and The Cucumber Tree. What was the inspiration behind creating the brand? What makes your products unique?
My daughters were my true inspiration behind creating the brand. When they were small, it was a struggle to find products that were free from parabens, PBA and Pegs to name a few. Burt’s Bees and Jason (both wonderful products) were the closest to an all-natural bath product line available. And even so, there was still something I couldn’t pronounce on their ingredient list. With the help of my experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician and Chemical Laboratory Technologist, it was natural to come up with my very own soap formula. After months of experimenting, I developed a recipe that was gentle, lathered nicely and was mildly scented so that most everyone could use it. The Cucumber Tree product line is unique in being all-natural and vegan and has now come to be a small home business that offers much more than just soap.
Do you have a favourite item from your line that you recommend we try?
My very favourite product I make is my face cream. It was designed to help with blemishes, breakouts and dryness using a combination of eight beneficial oils specific for the face. My skin feels velvety and smooth like no other cream I have ever used. I do have to mention, it is a new product and is just recently starting to gain attention but my Bath Bombs are a definite customer all time favourite!
The holidays are coming up! What are some of your best sellers or must have items from The Cucumber Tree?
We’ve been pretty busy at The Cucumber Tree this season so far…our samplers are a popular choice! An assortment of a bath salt, bath bomb, soap, a lip balm and a sugar scrubbie all in a box for $25 could be the reason.
Do you have any big plans for The Cucumber Tree in 2017? Will you be releasing any new items?
In 2017, I plan on concentrating on streamlining my product line making it more efficient. I will be introducing a few new products in the next few months and will be bringing back my 12 days of Christmas mini bath bomb set for Valentines day! The response to the 12 days of Christmas set was overwhelming and I sold out in 3 days!

I have been so fortunate to have local businesses offer to carry my product line. You can find my products at Home Hardware in Lively, on 2nd Ave. Sudbury and A & J’s off Regent St Sudbury. You can also find a huge selection at Durham Natural Foods and Tin Can Alley. My products are also available for purchase through my website and as part of a box set with Sudbury in a Box.
