French River (84km from Sudbury)

If you like fishing, hunting and hiking then a day trip to French River is for you. Just under an hour from Sudbury, making it one of the quickest day trips. Spend a day fishing, hunting, hiking or exploring the lakes on a kayak and the end it at Sucrerie Seguin Sugarbush! You’ll also want to stop at the suspension bridge for your Instagram photos and before you leave, don’t forget to stop at the French River Trading Post! Pick up some delicious fudge for the drive home.

Sturgeon Falls (89km from Sudbury)

Will travel for food. Sturgeon Falls has two of the most delicious poutine spots and it is a must visit every summer. Larry’s and RIV are right across the street from each other and I’ve yet to figure out which one is better. So when they open in March try them both for yourself and let us know. So we don’t just go to Sturgeon Falls for the delicious poutine. We also go for Leisure Farms. They close for the winter but in the spring/summer you’ll be able to pick raspberries and strawberries. This is also where our closest pumpkin patch is so make note and when fall comes, plan your day trip to pick up a pumpkin, hang out in the corn maze, shoot pumpkins out of canyons and try delicious apple pies.

Bridal Veil Falls, (Kegawong) Manitoulin Island (172km from Sudbury)

I know TLC told us that we shouldn’t go chasing waterfalls but we think they are so wrong. Chase the waterfalls. And make your first stop Bridal Veil Falls. Manitoulin Island is a beautiful place to spend a weekend but if you’re looking for a quick day trip from the city we suggest heading to Kegawong and exploring Bridal Veil Falls. The falls are great for a swim in the summer but seeing a frozen waterfall in the winter is pretty cool too.

Killarney (119 km from Sudbury)

If you live in Sudbury and haven’t been to Killarney for fish & chips you must be living under a rock. This has been a yearly day trip for my friends and I. There are tons of trails you can hike but most importantly there are the most delicious fish and chips to fill your stomachs with afterwards. With more than 10 trails to choose from, you can spend a day or two or three or head back multiple times a year and conquer them all. My favourite so far has been the Crack – it was tough but the views are well worth it. Pack a lunch and spend the afternoon at the top taking in the views of Killarney Provincial Park but make sure you leave room for fish and chips at Herbert Fisheries. You can find a more detailed hiking guide for Killarney Provincial Park here.

Arrowhead Provincial Park, Muskoka (246 km from Sudbury)

This park is beautiful all year round but it is especially magical in the winter when they create a skating trail through the forest. Located north of Hunstville, Arrowhead is just under a 3 hour drive from Sudbury. In the winter you can skate, tube, cross country ski, snowshoe or hike and in the warmer months you can hike the 15km of trails, explore a beautiful waterfall and rent canoes or kayaks. Right now the ice trails are open at 11am and you can find the times for the Fire and Ice nights here.
