5 Music Festivals to check out in Sudbury this summer
Summer in Sudbury is always the greatest. We’re surrounded by so many lakes, the sun is usually shining and best of all – the weekends are packed with fun festivals! From gardening festivals to food to music, there is something happening almost every weekend. The festival season has already started so today we’re sharing 5 music festivals in (and around) Sudbury that you need to check out this summer.
Northern Lights Festival Boreal – July 5-8
NLFB is Canada’s longest running festival and each year they bring so much talent to the Nickel city. This year the Arkells will be kicking off the festival as the Thursday night headliner and we cannot wait. The four day festival will also include a workshop and after-hours performance paying homage to the hip-hop arts with rapping, DJing, and beat making, musical cruises, and a packed list of vendors.

River & Sky Camping Festival – July 19-22
This family friendly festival is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year and they recently announced a really great lineup for this year! Just an hour outside of the city on theSturgeon river at Fisher’s Paradise, this is the perfect weekend getaway. The festival is on the shores of the Sturgeon River and you can kayak right to the festival so leave your cars behind, pack the appropriate camping gear and plan to spend July 19-22 enjoying awesome music with some great people.

Up Here – Urban Art & Music Festival – August 17-19
Up Here is in it’s 4th year and has quickly become one of the top summer events in Sudbury. This three day event will not only have over 50 established and emerging acts, they will also continue to paint our downtown with new murals, art installations and as usual – many surprises. You’re going to want to download the Up Here app so you don’t miss any of the much loved pop-up shows around the city.

Jazz Sudbury – September 5-9
Celebrating 10 years this September, Jazz Sudbury will be bringing more award-winning artists to Sudbury for a weekend full of jazz. They will have shows at Bell Park, 8 downtown Sudbury venues and New Orleans style Jazz walk. They’ll be announcing their full line-up on June 21 and tickets go on sale June 24.
Budweiser New Music Fest – September 14-15
One of the newer festivals on the list, New Music Fest originated in Barrie and came to Sudbury in 2012. Some of the past headliners were Aaron Pritchett, Finger Eleven, Mother Mother and Big Wreck. The lineup will be announced in the next few weeks so stay tuned to find out what artists will be heading to Sudbury.
