Top Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day in Sudbury
Apparently this year at Our Crater, I have taken on the role of cupid. The Love Guru. The “all things Valentine’s Day” expert.
There are often misconceptions about nightlife options in Sudbury, especially when deciding where to go for a romantic evening. Try taking that confusion and add to it the stress of wanting a perfect Valentine’s Day outing. Fret no more, here’s a list of hot Sudbury picks to make the best Valentine’s Day impact (get it, Our Crater):
Bowling
Most of us are definitely not professional bowlers, we go bowling to have fun with friends. Joke around and have a fun time glowing in the dark. Going bowling with that special date is the opportunity to explore those fun moments when you can easily laugh at yourself and simply have a stress-free night. For bowling in Sudbury, check out Plaza Bowl (705-566-0201 or their website here)
Skating
Sudbury is smackdab in the middle of the Northern Ontario winterscape, what better than to relive your favourite romantic holiday flick than to grab a quick bite to eat and go skating at your favourite local rink or outdoor path (here is a full list). Nothing is cuter than teaching your date how to skate! Warning, falls may occur but cute laughs will follow.
Burlesque Show
It may be a few days early of Valentine’s Day but the Sudbury Burlesque show is always a popular hit! This year Funk Me Sideways will be performing Feb. 10th & 11th for $35.00 ticket. This can definitely be Part 1 of your Valentine’s plans. Get your tickets before they`re gone here.
Downtown Dinner & A Movie
In Sudbury, everyone does the whole dinner and a movie at SilverCity plan (I’m guilty of this for sure). Why not take your special date to Durham Social, the Laughing Buddha, or Speakeasy before catching a movie downtown at the Downtown Movie Lounge – the drink and comfortable chair alone are selling points for me. Plan ahead here.
Snowshoeing
Just like skating, snowshoeing just screams the ultimate Canadian date. I can see the cute selfies now, only if the weather is nice though (cue the knock on wood). Snowshoeing is perfect for those adventurous souls. Don’t have snowshoes of your own? No sweat, the City of Greater Sudbury Public Library has you covered with their snowshoe lending program.
Try A New Cuisine OR Cook and Stay In
Nothing impresses more than the ability to step out of the comfort zone. I don’t know what it is but if someone wants to go on an adventure and experience something new… Going out for food that neither of you have ever tried makes for an interesting and unknown evening – isn’t that a terrifying thought?!
Another dose of cuteness is that special moment of cooking together, sharing some laughs, and showing off your fun side in the kitchen. If you’re one of those people who have that “can cook” on your checklist of your future partner, this can be that test – and if the skills look like they’re slacking, book that couples cooking class.
Something Unique
When asking around about ideas for this post, many offered the idea of “something unique” – I’ve had the worst time trying to decipher this. Here are some ideas that you probably haven’t thought of for a wild Valentine’s date – and if you have, I tip my hat to you.
- Rock Climbing or Aerial Yoga at ARC Climbing Yoga Fitness! – definitely not for those who are afraid of heights.
- Go to PetSmart and look at the puppies – nothing cuter than watching your significant other absolutely melt with a little furball in their arms.
