He is one of the team leaders on the score board, Liam Ezzard represents the Laurentian Voyageurs on the pitch with 5 goals and an assist in the first 12 games of the season. Liam is currently in his third year of five at Laurentian taking Con-Ed, with a double major of FSL (French as a second language) and Geography. He came to Laurentian University for the opportunity to become a teacher and had heard about the quality of the Concurrent Education program. He also was hoping to play soccer at the university level and was encouraged to do so by a friend from his home town of Thunder Bay, who happened to already play for the Voyageurs.
The ultimate goal of his university experience is to become a primary school teacher, as he wants to shape the minds of the younger generation. He has participated with the Cool Kids Lead program, where athletes have the opportunity to interact with the youth of the community. “There is a strong will to volunteer and participate in this program and the Sudbury community on this team, and we have around 15 of us who are taking part in this initiative.” Ezzard stated when asked about his involvement.
Laurentian’s Men’s soccer team stands at 4th in their conference and holds a 5-5-2 record in Ontario University Athletics (OUA), and following a strong start to the season, look to make an even stronger run towards the postseason.

What did it feel like to start off the season by leading the team in points?
It felt great, but you know, it’s more about being in the right place at the right time, my teammates deserve all the credit for making those opportunities happen.
What are the expectations for your team’s season?
I think we have a great chance this year. We would like to host a playoff game, which would mark an improvement in the past few years, and once we get into the playoffs anything can happen when it’s single game elimination. Of course, we’d be underdogs compared to bigger schools such as Queens, Carleton and the schools in Toronto like Ryerson and U of T. But I’d like to think we are up to the challenge, we have a great team, are strong defensively throughout the 90 minutes and anything can happen out there!
What does it mean to you to be part of the Laurentian Voyageurs family?
“Right now it’s been a whole lot of fun, trying to have fun in everything that we do, and it’s a great group of guys who maintain an incredible atmosphere even on the road; we’re a tight-knit group. It’s been a great start to the year and I hope we can keep the momentum!”
