Winter Whipperfest Lead Climbing Comp 2016 – Does anyone really need an excuse to take a whipper? If so, do we have the solutions to all your problems! One of the goals of the comp is to have fun. The other goal is to raise money for our youth team climbers with proceeds from the $10 entry fee going towards the youth team! So if you’re worried about taking massive whippers, just remember it’s all in the name of your favourite little shredders! 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. @ ARC – 1981 Old Burwash Rd.

Sudbury Project Hope Presents Concert for Hope – Sudbury Project Hope will host Concert for Hope on Friday, January 29 at Glad Tidings Church. Cost is $25 per person. All money raised will support two refugee families being sponsored by Sudbury Project Hope. “Concert For Hope features an outstanding lineup of local talent who have come together with one common goal: supporting Sudbury Project Hope and its effort to relocate and support two refugee families,” said Jeffrey Burton, event organizer. “Concert for Hope promises something for every musical taste from classical to jazz, blues and rock.” 7:00 p.m. @ Glad Tidings Church – 1101 Regent Street

Women’s Hockey Bell Let’s Talk Game – Bell Let’s Talk is a mental health initiative working to end the stigma surrounding mental health. One in 5 Canadians will suffer from a mental illness at some point in their lives, and most of them suffer in silence. Bell Let’s Talk is a campaign meant start the conversation; talking is the first step towards meaningful change and building greater awareness, acceptance and action. Join us at the Countryside Arena for our game against York University to support the campaign to end the stigma around mental illness. There will be a 50/50 draw and puck toss and all funds raised will go towards Bell Let’s Talk. Afterwards there will be a meet and greet with the voyageurs. Ontario’s First HOT BUTI Workshop – Join us for this 90 minute empowering class where we will sweat with intention, dance and free our minds. Hot Buti is a combination of heated power yoga and tribal dance. This is a great way to burn off the holiday indulgences and detoxify your cells. Note that there is no plyometric cardio element, so it’s slightly different from a traditional Buti Yoga class. Empower your workout, awaken your inner fire and ignite your chakras. Masquerade 2016 – It’s that time of year again! Grab a mask, suit up, and head over to Thorneloe University on the night of January 30th for the Student Theatre Association’s annual Masquerade ball! Masquerade is the STA’s biggest event of the year, and this year is looking to be our best one yet. Enjoy a night of dancing with music by DJ Willis! Spoken Word Cabaret – Our first Vale Cabaret event of the New Year features a stellar trio of poets and spoken word artists including former Greater Sudbury Poet Laureate Daniel Aubin, accomplished poet, novelist, and now playwright Kim Fahner, and performance poet and Sudburian-at-large Valerie Senyk. Gifts of Love Event – Get your loved ones someone something special this year, shop with our many vendors, support local businesses and a great cause all at the same time!  We will have a Penny Table with all Proceeds going to Whinnying in Life, Tiny hooves with Tender Hearts, A Equine touch program for those who suffer with mental, physical and emotional disabilities. 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. @ Sudbury Steelworkers Hall – 66 Brady Street

Cello Cafe – Cello Café is an afternoon of cello music. Unlike formal concerts, this is more like an “open mic”. Amateur cellists of all ages and levels will be performing in the relaxed atmosphere of the Fromagerie Elgin. Performers and audience members can make themselves at home – chat with your neighbours, enjoy the music, and have fun! 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. @ Fromagerie Elgin 80 Elgin Street
