Tales of a Charlie Brown Christmas – Tales of a Charlie Brown Christmas is proudly presented by the Young Sudbury Singers in association with Jazz Sudbury. Drummer Jerry Granelli is the only surviving member of Guaraldi’s trio who recorded the iconic 1965 A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. Today, he continues to honour the music in his live special performances. Parents and grandparents alike will have the opportunity to introduce jazz to a brand new generation as The Jerry Granelli Trio joins with the Young Sudbury Singers to recreate the magic of this classic album at Tales of A Charlie Brown Christmas on Friday, December 2, 2016, at 7 p.m., in the Fraser Auditorium at Laurentian University. Part concert, part screening, and part oral history, the show features performances of instantly recognizable tracks such as “Linus and Lucy”, “Skating”, “Christmas Time is Here”, and other seasonal treasures. Opening Reception | A Teddy Bear Christmas by Mary Lynn Polano – A Teddy Bear Christmas showcases the whimsy and skill of Mary Lynn Polano in handmade bears, bunnies, and other characters fashioned from previously-loved fur coats.The public is encouraged to attend the opening reception where Mary Lynn will be present for a meet and greet. Mary Lynn Polano lives in Lively, Ontario. She grew up watching the generations of women in her family create various arts and crafts and learned to sew as a young child. Kickboxing Fundamentals Striking and Pad Holding – In this introductory kickboxing seminar you will learn the basic striking and pad holding techniques to enter confidently into our kickboxing program. The style of kickboxing we practice is Muay Thai, the science of eight limbs. You will learn how to punch, kick, knee and elbow using your entire body to maximize power, increase your intensity which ultimately equals an amazing workout and results. During this two-hour seminar, we will also focus on pad holding. Our Kickboxing Fitness classes are partnered classes. Having a proper pad holder can allow you to shape your technique and build up an amazing sweat! So why not learn to be that person for someone else and it will come back to you! CTV-Lion’s Children’s Christmas Telethon – It all started in 1949 on the streets of Sudbury…
“Members of the Sudbury Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartets” pitched in to help the Salvation Army fill their “Cheer Pots”. They entertained in front of four collection stands singing Christmas carols outdoors in downtown Sudbury. The objective was to raise $500. In 1951 there were 300 children being helped by the Barbershoppers Christmas Toy Drive. The original idea grew to stage and radio shows and by 1951, the Barbershoppers Christmas Toy Drive had become a Christmas institution. 2:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. on CTV
Capreol Santa Claus Parade & Tree Lighting – Capreol will once again be celebrating the Christmas season in style! The Annual Tree Lighting activities will begin at 5pm with the Candle Walk at the Northern Ontario Railway Museum. Attendees will then participate in a Candle Walk to the Cenotaph where Carol Singing will be led by the Capreol Community Choir. The Tree Lighting will follow, along with Horse drawn wagon rides by Wagon Wheel Ranch. Public Animal – Join us tonight for explosive rock and roll action. There is this beautiful land of noise somewhere between punk, metal, hard rock, stoner rock, psychedlia… Ian Blurton and Public Animal are the gatekeepers of this paradise. Ian is a rock and roll everyman. He’s a warhorse producer, with credits on everything from Tricky Woo and Huron to Godspeed. He’s a blue collar guitar god who has been a grounding peg in the Canadian music scene from Change of Heart in the late 80’s through to 2000 and then C’Mon through to 2011. Skate with the Wolves – The Sudbury Wolves will be hosting their annual Skate with the Wolves at the Sudbury Arena on Sunday December 4th from Noon – 1pm.
