SGDC Pre-Challenge Unity Workshop – Bone up on your Unity skills in the weekend leading up to the SGDC! The SGDC’s own fiendishly handsome Mike Daoust will be teaching a semi-guided workshop on how to use Unity to make a very simplistic game. And by that, mostly he means he’ll be swearing a lot and hoping things work out okay. 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. @ NORCAT – 1545 Maley Drive

Christmas Bird Count for Kids – Are you and your family always wondering what bird that is visiting your feeders? Come out and take part in Conservation Sudbury’s fourth annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids! The event will be held on Saturday, January 7th at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area Nature Chalet (2309 South Bay Rd.) from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Participants will be introduced to our local winter bird species, then head out in birding teams with an experienced birder for a hike and bird count. Following presentations of bird counts, families will have the opportunity to make a bird feeder at a cost of $8.00 to bring home and attract some feathered friends to their yards! 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. @ Lake Laurentian Conservation Area – 2309 South Bay Road

Opening Reception | Snow by Christy A. Smith – Christy A. Smith is the Artist in Residence at Camp Tanamakoon, Algonquin Park (since 2007) and teaches at Camp Wenonah, Muskoka (since 2008). Her work has appeared in the Sudbury Art Tour, LaCloche Art Show, and the Cavalcade of Colors Show, along with many solo exhibitions. Christy is a member of Artists on Elgin. The public is invited to attend the opening reception for ‘Snow’. Smith will be present for a meet and greet, refreshments will be served. 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. @ Artists on Elgin – 168 Elgin Street
